Description

First time ever on vinyl for the 1999 debut album by cult Melbourne outfit, Hungry Ghosts. Originally released on CD on the Reliant label and produced by Rowland S. Howard (Birthday Party/Young Charlatans/need we say more?), it sounded like a band from another place and time. Nominally thrown into the 'post-rock' sphere, the Hungry Ghosts brought so much more to the table than such restrictive terms may imply.
Featuring an eclectic array of percussive and stringed instruments, with some brass thrown in for good measure, the band created its own world of expressive instrumental music that played like a lost European film soundtrack.
Soon after its release, the group made their way to the US to record for Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth)'s Smells Like label, and the story continues from there.
This 2LP edition features the debut full-length CD on vinyl for the very first time, as well as their debut self-released (and -titled) EP from two years earlier.
Inside is an informative 4-page booklet with extensive liner notes telling the Hungry Ghosts story.
Highly recommended for fans of: Dirty Three, Low, Triffids et al.
